About Wythall & Hollywood

‘Combining convenience and amenities with countryside’

Situated in a semirural location on the outer borders of the suburbs of Birmingham and open countryside, the villages of Wythall and Hollywood lie to the west of Solihull and have a host of attractions in the immediate area including Earlswood Lakes, an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are also craft centres and garden centres nearby for visitors and residents to enjoy, a picnic area at Forhill and lovely country walks at Weatheroak.

The original settlement in Wythall dates back to the late 1750’s and combined a small village centre with surrounding larger farms. The dawn of the railways led to the opening of Grimes Hill Station in 1907, which was followed in the 1930’s by the residential development along Station Road, Lea Green Lane and Norton Lane.

The adjoining village of Hollywood extends along the A435 Alcester Road, from the borders of Wythall towards Birmingham. Hollywood was predominantly developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s, as the bug for home ownership grew through the country, the nearby proximity of Birmingham City centre, the Austin works at Longbridge and the Rover works at Solihull providing excellent local employment opportunities.

The arrival of the M42 in the 1980’s further enhanced the location, providing access to the national motorway network.

The area continued to grow, with development on the Wythall and Hollywood borders and some additional infill development in more established locations.

Popular local primary schooling is provided by The Coppice School in Hollywood and Meadow Green in Wythall, with Woodrush High School in Shawhurst Lane catering for secondary school age children.
