About Shirley

‘Shirley – Convenience and Character Combined’

Shirley is an attractive and affluent suburb of Solihull. It nestles on the south western edge of the City of Birmingham, making it a popular choice for those working in the City.

Dating back to the 1800’s, Shirley was a mainly agricultural area sitting either side of the present main A34 road linking Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon and beyond to Oxford. It offers a wide choice of housing styles, from traditional cottages and villas through to more modern semi-detached and detached houses built through the decades.

Additionally, on the outskirts of Shirley are Monkspath and Cheswick Green and the exciting new village of Dickens heath, all of which have their own social and shopping amenities, junior and infant schools with nursery units.

The main shopping area of Shirley is sited along the A34 Stratford Road, with traditional style shops serving everyday needs and a good choice of supermarkets and specialist stores. It shares a retail park with Solihull in Marshall Lake Road, leading from the Stratford Road, and a little way beyond here are the Cranmore, Widney and Solihull business Parks and on the junction with the M42 motorway, the vibrant Blythe Valley Business and Technology Park.

Shirley has its own railway station on Haslucks Green Road, with parking facilities and regular bus services operating throughout the whole area.

With an excellent and varied choice of restaurants and social facilities, Shirley is a very popular place for all members of the community to live in and enjoy.
